Recently I’ve been thinking more about the sewing patterns I use. I’m increasingly finding that The Big Four have been somewhat limiting and even a bit naff. This probably sounds a bit harsh. I mean, the Big Four have served me well thus far – in fact all the patterns I’ve used have been McCalls, Vogue, Butterick and Simplicity. But recently I’ve been doing some exploring on the interweb and found two smaller pattern companies who I really like.
The first is Victory Patterns. They are pretty, feminine and summery. I particularly like these patterns:
The other pattern company I was super excited to discover was Salme Sewing Patterns. I really like their patterns because they look feminine without relying on nostalgic devices like full skirts which makes them really wearable. These are the ones I like.
Peplum Top
I was also attracted to these Rompers
I’d love to hear of any pattern companies you’ve discovered!
I also discovered Salme patterns some time ago, as I was looking for a peplum top pattern. But then Burda August 2012 issue came out and I used theirs.

I like the look of Hot Patterns, but I haven’t actually tried sewing any of them yet. I’ve never heard of Salme or Victory, so I’ll check them out. Really want to start making my own clothes again – thanks for the inspiration!

My friend just gave me 4 Colette patterns and I’m really looking forward to trying them out when I’m back with my machines. I’ve sewn without patterns for the last year so I’m looking forward to getting back to my pattern stash. I had only heard of a few of these so thanks for the headsup.

I’m a big fan of Grainline patterns– Jen’s only got a few patterns at the moment, but they’re all super wearable and modern.

I like that romper pattern! I made a Colette Patterens top that was simple with great instructions and am currently working on their Hazel dress. They have a variety of dres patterns, that I think you might like!
