Heck Yes! #NISM2015

Hold the phone – have you heard about the North Island Sewing Meet Up? Becuase I’m pretty excited and I’m going to be there! Rotorua, Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 August, lock it in guys!

Sewing is, for the most part, a solo sport. And although you can build some great relationships with bloggers and Instagrammers through the powers of the internet nothing beats meeting up with like-minded people in the felsh!

If you’re interested there’s a whole lot more information on the meet up organisers’ blogs – that is Mel from The Curious Kiwi and Sandra of Flossie FT. Or you could jump straight in and sign up here.

Follow the hashtag #NISM2015 on Instagram and Twitter for all the latest info and details. I look forward to seeing you all there!

Winter Meet Up – This Sunday!

Just a quick note to say that we are having our winter meet up this Sunday 9 June at 10.30am. Frances, of Frankly Sew, suggested we meet at a cafe called Circus Circus on Mt Eden Road and I think that’s a great idea. Caroline and Michelle will also be there as well as all the non-bloggy sewing lovers.

Winter Meet Up

Keen to come but you’re a bit shy? Never fear! We are super friendly! Send me an email penny[at]dressesandme[dot]com and find out more.

Me Made May and Meet Up

Here in New Zealand we are well and truly into winter – it’s grey outside, it’s been pouring all day and my boots are sodden right through to my toes. Full disclosure: I even bought some Ugg Boots last week.

I’ve dived into Me Made May head first and actually remembered to note this when I get dresses every morning! Well done me! My photographer was working late this week so I’ve only got pics of the last three days but rest assured that I have been complying with my pledge. Here is the evidence:

May 2: Houndstooth skirt; May 3: Vintage-y blouse and Grey work skirt; May 4: Ginger by Colette and gingham shirt (the first blouse I every made). This last outfit has become my go-to combo.

The Auckland Sewing Bloggers had their first Meet Up last weekend too! It was a great morning discussing our shared love of Sewaholic Patterns – Claire and I even decided to have a Thurlow challenge to conquer our fear of sewing trousers. Michelle from Every Stitch bought some great fabric which we pounced on and told us about how she was going to whip up a 1920’s dress IN ONE AFTERNOON for her daughter’s party! What a super hero! Unfortunately I forgot to take photos, I only posted one to my instagram of my lemon tart – what a fail!

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and I’m looking forward to the next one!

Let’s Have a Meet Up

I’ve been having a think – wouldn’t it be nice to have a meet up of all the Auckland sewing bloggers? I love blogging and blogging about sewing and sewing in general so wouldn’t it be great if we could talk about sewing but in person? We could even have a pattern and stash swap too if we wanted? I’ve been doing some Meet Up stalking and the lovely ladies of Wellington, New Zealand, had a great meet up the other day and I’m pretty jealous. The Curious Kiwi blogged about their amazingness.

So… If you live in Auckland or if you’re going to be in Auckland on the weekend of 27 -28 April the let me know and we can arrange something. I’m flexible about the actual meet up destination. It’ll be fun, I promise!

ALSO did you see that Colette has released a new pattern this morning??? It called Laurel and its a super versatile shift dress or top. This is my favourite version:

And of course you’ve probably already seen the new Sewaholic pattern the Robson Coat. Gorgeous, simple elegant.Love it.

So if you’re in Aucklad let’s have a meet up! Either comment on this post or email me dressesandme[at]hotmail.com
